Indigenous People and Cultures at Risk in
Cross-border Region of Uganda, Kenya and South Sudan

The Ik people are a small tribe indigenous to the mountainous area where the borders of Kenya, Uganda and Southern Sudan meet. Like the Batua Pygmy at the western border of Uganda to eastern Congo, the lives and culture of the Ik are threatened here by cross-border conflicts between the larger tribes, particularly the Turkana to the east and Dodoth to the west. As the Ik retreated into the mountains, the increasingly suffered water-born diseases due to lack of safe water sources.
